COMPOSITE CERTIFYING TECHNICIAN


JOB DESCRIPTION

Reporting to the Engineering Manager for a diverse manufacturer of composite-based products and parts, with expertise in Design, Engineering, Advanced Materials and Research and Development. Products are distributed in military, transportation, energy and commercial markets. The Composites Engineer primary responsibilities are to design and document composite structures, provide expert judgment and analysis for the design, development, and implementation of technical products and systems, and to resolve highly complex technical issues. The position includes functions such as conducting advanced research and altering the development and design of products and/or procedures in order to improve quality.


REQUIREMENTS

B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
Composite structural experience for light aircraft, autos or other vehicles
Hands-on composite fabrication experience, wet layup preferred
5 to 15 years using any high level CAD system, Creo (Pro/E) preferred
For newer graduates, must have participated in extracurricular projects and activities during school (i.e. Build Design Fly, Formula SAE)
Has “tinkered” with mechanical equipment or built models from childhood. Enjoys building, creating or designing.
8 to 10 years of experience designing general aviation structures, including composites and injection molded plastics using complex surfaces in Pro Element /Creo

Materials and Processing (M&P) oversight
Preliminary sizing for stress through hand calculations or Pro/Mechanical Finite Element Analysis

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Execute, with guidance from senior engineering, the design, analysis, test, or integration required to define and support assigned components, assemblies or systems that meet engineering standards and program requirements 
Provide engineering liaison to manufacturing, test and quality, interpreting drawings and engineering intent 
Select and apply analytical techniques and engineering principles to composite and metallic components for design and development 
Establish composite and metallic part design using 3D CAD and FEA 
Prepare reports, formal documentation and presentation materials summarizing analysis results and presenting results to both external and internal groups. 
Participate and present information for Preliminary Design reviews (PDR), Critical Design Reviews (CDR) and Technical Interchange Meetings (TIM) 
Manage and complete assigned projects on time and within budget adhering to engineering standards 
Contribute as part of a team to develop new methods of simulation and modeling for composite material and structures.
Responsible for observing all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company. Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.
